If anything defines Gerard Pique is the clarity with which he explains his ideas or his thoughts. In Friday's press conference, the Barcelona defender was clear and concise when he remembered the loss against Liverpool in the Champions League.

"It was one of the worst experiences as a professional player, the game at Anfield," he said. "We tried to play Barcelona style, sometimes it's easier, sometimes it's difficult. This is the idea from the coach to the players.

"But as I said, it's not just what we want, sometimes the other team plays, sometimes you have different players or players that maybe are more comfortable playing another kind of game. At the end of the day a lot of circumstances that make you play one way or another way.

"The wish is to play Barcelona style, what we learned here in La Masia. There are times, like at Anfield, when it's not possible to have all of the ball and that's one of the reasons why we lost."

Asked about Frenkie de Jong's arrival, he said: "The years pass and players age. There comes a moment when you have to sign young players. You look for talent to rejuvenate the squad. De Jong has shown in Holland and, above all, in the Champions League that he can compete with the best. I think he can help a lot next season."
