Newcastle’s purchase by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund has led to many rumours. They hope to make a lot of transfers in January. One of the names on the table is Philippe Coutinho, a player liked at Barcelona who would be willing to negotiate an exit. Barcelona do know that he has been in contact with the Saudis last summer but nothing was sealed.
Now they have taken over they may try again. Barcelona wanted to sell him in the summer but there were not enough offers. Barcelona want 50m euros for him and that’s a figure Newcastle can easily reach now.
Coutinho’s people have never hidden that he would be happy to play in the Premier League again, where he fits in well and was named player of the season once.
