Pedri's injury situation becomes complicated for Barcelona

The midfielder is hurt again and cannot play in the Clasico on Sunday

FC Barcelona received some bad news during Friday's training session at the Ciutat Esportiva. Unexpectedly, Pedri once again felt muscular discomfort and had to withdraw from the session with an injury. The player will not only miss the Clasico, but will not be able to participate in the national team matches against Norway and Scotland and is also in serious doubt for the cup match against Madrid on April 5.

Pedri had trained well on Thursday. He did almost all the training normally. His sensations were positive. However, this Friday there was an untimely change of script. The Tenerife native stepped on the training pitch and soon noticed that he had a very different feeling. His right leg did not respond as expected and he had to stop.

In the absence of more accurate medical tests, the downturn was apparent. Pedri will have to go slowly in his recovery. During the break he will continue with specific treatment and is already ruled out for the return leg on 1 April against Elche and is a serious doubt for the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final on 5 April.

Xavi Hernández had hoped to count on the Spaniard. That's why he had already joined the group with the aim of starting him and forming the same line-up as in the Spanish Super Cup with the only change being Raphinha for the injured Dembélé.

The scenario now changes radically. There will be no more running for Pedri. Until he is at one hundred percent, he won't be pushed at all. If he is not at full strength for the second leg of the Copa del Rey, he will continue to work to help in the final stretch of the league and with the hope that the team will go through to the final of the Copa del Rey on May 6 to play in it.

Xavi was working with the formula of the four midfielders and it doesn't look like he will change it. Thus, Kessie will come in for Pedri and keep Gavi out on the left flank.

Ferran Torres is the other option for a more daring approach, placing Gavi inside, but everything suggests that Xavi will prefer to populate the midfield to have control and avoid Los Blancos transitions.
