Paris Saint-Germain want to protect Juan Bernat against Barça interest

The Catalan club would be keen on the left-back if he's free in the summer

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain could clash again. Barça are looking for a left-back to compete with Jordi Alba. Junior Firpo has suitors and could be sold this summer. And Juan Bernat has emerged as a low-cost option given he's out of contract in the summer.

L'Equipe report that Leonardo has met with the player's agent to begin talks over a new deal. It seems the French club do want to renew his deal and they will be listened to, but the player has already rejected various offers.

Barça are looking to strengthen with cheap transfers or players who are out of contract in the summer. Bernat is also a player they have been interested in before. PSG are aware of the situation and want to offer the Spanish left-back a new deal to keep him and avoid losing him for free.

The fact that Barça are interested is also a factor given the battles on and off the pitch between the two teams in recent seasons.

Meanwhile, Bernat is still out injured with ligament damage. He has not played since September and his fitness was a reason PSG had considered not offering him a new deal. Now it remains to be seen how he will recover.

We will see what happens in the coming weeks. His comeback is expected in March, once he's turned 28, and Barça will also be following his return to action closely.

Bernat moved to Paris in 2018 from Bayern Munich and has made 76 appearances for the club. He has been a key feature of their attack in that time, scoring six goals and registering 10 assists across the two seasons when he was fully fit.
