One year on from Valverde's sacking: neither Setien nor Koeman better results

It's been a rocky year for Barcelona since they sacked Ernesto Valverde

Wednesday, Jan 13, marks one year since Ernesto Valverde was sacked as Barcelona coach following the defeat to Atletico Madrid in the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Valverde's spell at Barça yielded two league titles, one Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup. However, it was stained by the 3-0 defeat to Roma and the 4-0 loss to Liverpool.

With 365 days not passed since Valverde was released, the numbers speak very clearly: Barça have not improved results-wise since firing him -- not with Quique Setien or with Ronald Koeman.

Valverde was Barça coach for 145 games, winning 97, drawing 32 and losing 16. He left with a winning percentage of 67 percent. Setien left with a 64 percent win rate -- 16 wins from 25 -- and Ronald Koeman so far has 62.5 percent -- 15 wins from 24.

In total, without Valverde, the win percentage is 63 percent, with 31 wins from their 49 games since he was sacked last January.

Curiously, Koeman can match Setien's win rate through 25 games if his Barça side beat Real Sociedad in the Super Cup semifinal on Wednesday.

In his first 25 games, Valverde's numbers were better than Setien and Koeman: 18 wins, five defeats and two losses. Both those losses came in the Super Cup at the start of the season, his first two games.
