The 18-year-old midfielder has committed his long-term future to the Catalan club

Pedri has signed a new deal with Barcelona to tie him to the club until 2026 with his release clause raised to €1 billion.

The midfielder's previous deal was due to expire this summer but he made it clear his desire was always to extend with Barça.

A €1bn release clause is a new club record for Barça, with Antoine Griezmann's €800m clause the previous record high.

Pedri, 19 in November, will speak to the media at a press conference on Friday.

"FC Barcelona and the player, Pedro González 'Pedri', have agreed a contract extension up to 30 June 2026," Barça announced on Thursday.

"The release clause is set at €1bn. The new contract ties down the player from the Canary Islands for the rest of this season and a further 4 years. The official signing will take place on Friday 15 October, with the following schedule:

"• 1.30pm CEST, the signing of the contract in a private ceremony in the president's office.

"• 2.00pm CEST, a photo session before a press conference in Auditori 1899.

"The player's presentation will be available for viewing via Barça TV and Barça TV+ from 1.30pm CEST. Barça TV+ will also show a special programme in English featuring Pedri at 1.00pm CEST from Camp Nou."
