Barça announced the news on Friday after Xavi confirmed the agreement earlier in the day
It's official. FC Barcelona have announced the renewal of the head coach of the first men's football team, Xavi Hernández, for one more season. His association with the Catalan club was due to expire on June 30, 2024, and now it will extend until 2025.
The initial idea was to sign until 2026, although in the end, the coach from Terrassa will extend for one more season. The agreement is already sealed, and in it, there is a clause that allows him to extend his deal as coach until 2026 if Barcelona wins LaLiga or the Champions League from this moment onwards.
Xavi took over the team in November 2021, leaving behind his stint as the coach of Qatar's Al-Sadd. This happened following the dismissal of Ronald Koeman, with Sergi Barjuan temporarily taking charge for three matches.
Xavi ejuvenated the team, taking them from ninth to second position in LaLiga in his first campaign. Last season, with a squad more in line with the coach's requests, he won the Spanish Super Cup, defeating Real Madrid in the final held in Saudi Arabia, and LaLiga, with a 10-point gap over Los Blancos.
