OFFICIAL: Barca announce first USA tour details
They will face Inter Miami and then the New York Red Bulls in the summer, with more to come
The coronavirus is ‘forgotten’ and the big tours are back. Barcelona are going to the USA this summer. It was an unspoken secret, now official. They will travel in July, with opponents and many kilometres lying before them.
The trip will start in Miami. There they will face Inter Miami, David Beckham’s team, run by Phil Neville, while Gonzalo Higuain is the biggest name player. That will be on July 19 (7.30pm local time) at the DRV PNK stadium.
Eleven days later, on July 30, Barca will visit a team with many years of history, the New York Red Bulls. Founded in 1994, and coached by Gerhard Struber. It will be Barcelona’s third clash with them.
It’s not official yet but there will be two more games. In principle, they will be in LA and Las Vegas. The latter city will host a Clasico.
Their last visit to the US was three years ago, in the summer of 2019, when Ernesto Valverde’s side played friendlies against Napoli in Miami and Ann Arbor. Barcelona also went there in 2011, 2015, 2017 and 2018, the latter year in which they did a tour with Barca Femeni.
"We are proud to return to the United States and play these two games in a country that is strategic for us as it is a territory where we have a large fan base and where football has experienced great growth in recent years, especially among the new generations,” said Juli Guiu, the vice-president of Barcelona’s marketing area. “This visit will allow us to get closer to our fans, share with them our values and our Barcelona feeling and it will be an opportunity for them to enjoy our team on the pitch.”
