No directors' lunch and no mosaic for Wednesday's Copa del Rey clasico

The tension between the Barça and Madrid boards over the Negreira case persists

As was the case at the LaLiga clasico on 19 March, there will be no board of directors' lunch prior to Wednesday's Copa del Rey semifinal at Spotify Camp Nou. This has been decided by the Barça board of directors, chaired by Joan Laporta.

This decision shows the malaise that still exists at the Blaugrana with Florentino Pérez and the board of directors of Real Madrid for deciding to appear as a damaged party in the 'Negreira Case', in which Barcelona, their ex-presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu and some ex-executives of the club like Òscar Grau and Albert Soler, among others, are being investigated.

The decision of the Barça board prior to the last LaLiga clasico provoked a response from Pérez, who decided not to travel to Barcelona and not to sit in the box at Spotify Camp Nou next to Laporta. The Los Blancos president's entourage assured that he did so because he expected a very hostile atmosphere against him and his team and so as not to add fuel to the fire. The atmosphere in the Barcelona stadium ended up being normal for a clasico.

The question now is whether Pérez will travel to Barcelona on Wednesday or to stay in Madrid again. The president is very happy after his team's victory over Real Valladolid and is convinced they will go through to the final. That is why he will probably choose to travel to be with his players in a match that he considers very important.

The relationship between the two boards is not at its best after Real Madrid's decision to take legal action in the 'Negreira case', but they explain that they will continue to work together on common issues such as the Super League and the disputes they have with the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas. They are also working on playing another clasico in pre-season like the ones already played in Miami and Las Vegas.

NO MOSAIC

Despite the importance of Wednesday's game, in which Barça defend the goal they scored in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu to reach the Copa del Rey final, the Barça board of directors have also decided that there will be no mosaic before kick-off. Nor was there one at the last clasico in La Liga.
