The midfielder struck the winner against Elche on Saturday evening

Nico González came off the bench to score the winner for Barcelona on Saturday as they beat Elche 3-2 at Camp Nou.

As he spoke to Movistar after the win, a group of supporters chanted his name, leading to him losing his attention and saying: "I hope one day the whole of Camp Nou sings me name."

The midfielder's goal was his second in a week for Barça and helped Xavi Hernandez's team end a run of three games without a win.

"It's a great play from Gavi, who was impressive today," he said of his goal. "My control got away from me a little but in the end it went in.

"We weren't getting what we deserved (in recent games). This win is super important and we deserved it. We're really happy because the game became complicated in the second half. Elche had five or 10 really good minutes. They took the two chances they had."

Nico (19), Gavi (17) and Ferran Jutgla (22) were the Barça scorers in a season that is being increasingly marked by match-winning performances from the youngsters at the club.

"All the players in the first team are equally important," Nico added. "I don't agree that it's the youngsters, it's everyone. For me to score, the whole team has to contribute.

"We will fight to be in the top four and we will fight for LaLiga because we owe that to the fans. We believe things are going to improve a lot and this win will help. I didn't score in Segunda B last year and now I have two for the first team!"
