The midfielder is currently away with the Spain U21 side

Barcelona midfielder Nico Gonzalez is currently with Spain U21s and has spoken to La Vanguardia about a ranger of subjects.

"Luis Enrique told me that the U21s is the B team for the national team and I have to give everything here," he said of his chances of playing for the senior Spain side. "And I'm doing that, because playing for the national team is one of my dreams."

Aged just 20, he also spoke about:

Joining Barça: "I was 11 and a lot of teams wanted me, like Real Madrid, but I was always a Barça fan. And before signing I trained there and knew friends like Eric Garcia, Take Kubo and Ansu Fati. At 16 I could have gone to Manchester City but I have always wanted to succeed at aBarça. And it's not gone badly."

Position: "In La Masia I was nearly always a pivote. Bit now I am more of an interior and I am adapting well. Time will tell where I end up. I think I can adapt to both roles well. People like Xavi and Busquets know a lot about football and help me."

Xavi vs. Koeman: "They have different ideas and ways of working. In the end, Xavi's idea is working well, but we can't forget last season with Koeman when we won the Copa del Rey and fought for LaLiga."

Contract 2024: "Soon we will have to sit down and speak. It will be an important moment for my future. If Barça want, I would stay here for my whole life."

Araujo and Gavi: They're important players with big futures. I am sure and hope they will reach an agreement to stay at Barça for 10 or 15 years."

Haaland: "He will mark an era and I hope he ends up at Barça because he will help us grow."
