Nico Gonzalez has spoken to Cadena SER about the reason he decided to leave Barcelona for Valencia on loan in the summer.

The young midfielder says "the pitch puts everyone in their place" and feels he has chosen "the perfect team to continue my development."

He said: "I had been living in Barcelona for 10 years and it's hard to leave. I had my life there, I was in the team of my life. But I think I have done the right thing and come to the perfect place to develop. Any team is going to be different to Barça, wherever you move you are going to need that period to adapt."

Nico continued: "I asked Xavi to let me go on loan and he understood. He wished me a lot of luck and made it easy for me to go out."

The midfielder was also asked to describe Barça's three biggest talents in one word: Pedri ("magic"), Gavi ("character") and Ansu Fati ("goal").

"Football is about performances and the pitch puts everyone in their place. Cases like Pedri, Ansu and Gavi show that, if you perform, you play."

Finally, on his own position on the pitch, he said that "I have spent my whole life playing as a pivote and I am more used to that than playing as an interior."

And on playing for Real Madrid one day? "No, I've been a Barça fan since I was little. I am really happy in Valencia, I have been happy in Barcelona and I don't think I will end up at Madrid."
