The midfielder has been a key player for Barcelona this season and only six players have been used more
With the season officially over, the club are working on important issues, like ins and outs, but also extending Gavi’s contract.
With Sergi Roberto’s deal about to be announced for another season, next up will be Gavi. Barcelona want to give him a long-term deal and 1 billion euro release clause, like with Araujo, Pedri and Ansu Fati.
Negotiations have been advancing for a while but have not reached the definitive phase yet. The will of both sides to come to an agreement is evident, but the length and money have not been fixed.
Gavi’s current Barcelona deal ends next summer. He is also still technically a Juvenil player, but it’s too late to go back there obviously, with his explosion for club and country irreversible.
Gavi will be a first team player next season. He turns 18 on August 5. His leap to Camp Nou was meteoric, playing over 3,000 minutes, the sixth most of any player, beaten by only Busquets, Alba, De Jong, Araujo and Pique. 37 starts from 47 appearances, two goals and six assists.
With Spain he has been called up for the Nations League games in June by Luis Enrique.
Barcelona fans love his passion and personality, but so do his coaches. Gavi and the Blaugrana are destined to continue together, but first the small issue of the contract must be agreed on.
