Newcastle could be the danger for Barca over Christensen
The Danish centre back has had a brilliant season with the Catalans
Barcelona need to sell to balance the books and lower their salary limit. The idea is to do this without affecting the competitive level of the team.
However the club are sure that offers will arrive for Andreas Christensen and the big danger could come from Newcastle, who are paying a lot of attention to the footballer — and their capacity for investment is unlimited.
Barca’s idea with Christensen is to keep him, and they may even look to renew his deal next season. But an offer bigger than his market rate could change the story.
The player, through his people, has advised that he is very happy at the club and has no intention of leaving.
Barcelona have a centre-back lined up for next season in Inigo Martinez, and he will come for free from Athletic Bilbao. He would be the only left footed centre back in the squad if he does.
With Araujo, Kounde, and Eric Garcia as well as Christensen, the position is well covered. Barca consider Araujo untouchable and it’s hard to sell Kounde as very little of his fee has been amortised.
