Neither Laporte or De Ligt, Barca's central defender hunt retreats
They aren't getting either of these two players this summer and need to let Umtiti go
Both have been heavily linked with Barca, both are big names, despite not having good club seasons. Aymeric Laporte has been behind John Stones and Ruben Dias, while De Ligt has not adapted easily to life at Juventus.
The pair have been linked with Barcelona but the club cannot afford them. As reported in SPORT recently, the option for the French-born nationalised Spaniard has more or less gone up in smoke. They have not got rid of players yet, including Umtiti. They’d also accept an offer for Clement Lenglet.
But also Barca might like a player younger than Laporte, 27.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano says De Ligt is not leaving Turin and Barca have not spoken with Juventus. The new Juve boss Allegri wants the ex-Ajax man, who had a good Euros until he was sent off against the Czech Republic and Netherlands were eliminated.
