A tough week is coming. Barca need to get rid of players. Griezmann and Coutinho are the top two names to oust. However, the revolution doesn’t end there and in defence there may be changes. Barca are considering opening the door for Clement Lenglet and Sergino Dest, two players who would be wanted elsewhere, as well as solving the Umtiti problem.
Most of the squad is on the market in one way or another. Lenglet has been a first-team pick for a couple of seasons but had a bad campaign last time out and Barca want to loan or sell him.
In England there is a rumour that Arsenal might move for him, despite signing Ben White. Tottenham also want a defender. However, Lenglet has no intention of leaving Barca. A meeting will be held when he’s back from holiday.
Dest, meanwhile, the club have told that if a good offer arrives, the door is open. Bayern are linked with a loan but Barca want a transfer if he goes.
He’s young but hasn’t fully convinced and they also have Emerson from Betis who is a good bet for the future. Inter Milan are said to be interested too, but also as a loan.
Umtiti is the hard one. He does not want to leave or lower his salary. He would accept a loan out. Barca would press for him to lower his deal to the point where clubs would take him on loan.
Olympique Lyon are looking for a way to get their former player back. It really depends on Umtiti. He knows he’s not needed at Barca and will not play this season.
If they can get those defenders out they will look to bring in one, a versatile one who can be Jordi Alba’s back-up at left-back.
