Mingueza suffers injury relapse in Spain's Olympic quarterfinal

The defender came off early in the game against Ivory Coast on Saturday

Bad news for Barcelona's Oscar Mingueza. The defender, who returned to the Spain side for their Olympic quarterfinal against Ivory Coast, has suffered a relapse of an injury he obtained earlier in the tournament.

Mingueza injured his thigh in the opening game against Egypt but coach Luis de la Fuente was able to restore him to the team at right-back on Saturday.

However, with less than 10 minutes gone in the game, he felt pain in the same muscle and had to ask to come off, with Jesus Vallejo replacing him.

Mingueza had returned to training on Tuesday but was not risked in the final group game against Argentina on Wednesday. But Spain's medical team ruled he was fit to feature against the Ivory Coast.

Barça will hope he came off more as a precaution than anything, with the LaLiga season due to begin in just two weeks.
