The young French defender only joined the German club in January

He had previously been a target for Barcelona when at Salzburg

According to Calciomercato, Milan are interested in signing Dayot Upamecano, the young central defender signed for Red Bull Leipzig last winter.

Upamecano, 19, has also been followed by Barcelona, who were impressed with his performances even before he joined the Bundesliga club in January.

Milan will have to offer a lot of money to land the teenage defender, though. The Frenchman only signed for the German club recently, from Red Bull Salzburg, and is already a key player for his new side.

The Serie A side invested nearly 200 million euros in signings in the summer and are still looking to invest more to return the club to the pinnacle of Europe. They want Upamecano despite already having Bonucci, Romagnoli and Musacchio.

"Due to his age, potential and style, he's a player that adapts perfectly to the philosophy of our club," said Leipzig's sporting director, Ralf Rangnick. "We are delighted that, despite having offers from big clubs, he decided to sign for us."
