Nico will leave on loan again with Porto in first place to sign him this summer

Nico González is the main absentee from Xavi Hernández's squad for the tour of the United States that FC Barcelona's first team will be undertaking over the next two weeks.

The Galician midfielder, who will once again go out on loan in search of minutes and opportunities, will stay in Barcelona to work out his future and find a destination where he can grow personally and professionally.

As Catalunya Ràdio reported, Xavi met with Nico on Tuesday to inform him that the extreme competition in midfield following the signings of Ilkay Gündogan and Oriol Romeu would not allow him to assume the role he desires. At 21 years of age, he needs to play regularly. A whole season in ostracism is not the desired scenario for any of the parties.

Nico already showed last summer that his absolute priority is to play. If he cannot succeed at the club of his life, he will try to do so at another top European club. At the moment, FC Porto seem to be the best positioned to sign him after Valencia decided to abandon their 'bid'. All that remains is for the Portuguese club and Barça to agree on the amount of the future option to buy that would be part of the deal.

It made no sense for Nico to travel to the United States if he already knows that he will go out on loan sooner rather than later and that is why Xavi has not included him in the list for the tour. The midfielder has permission to find the destination that suits him best for his future.
