Fabián Vargas has revealed an anecdote about the Barcelona captain

The former Colombian footballer Fabián Vargas has revealed an anecdote about Lionel Messi dating back to 2010, when Almeria played Barcelona.

The then Almeria midfielder asked for Messi's shirt before the game, but the frustration of the result, an 8-0 loss, meant he forgot to follow up his request.

However, Messi found him in the dressing room after the game and had a surprise for him.

Vargas has revealed what the surprise was in an interview with El Pais de Cali, in which he explains that he had promised some friends Messi's shirt for an auction which was raising money following floods in Colombia that year.

Therefore, he told Messi the situation before the game and the Argentine said there would be no problem. But the game was a disaster for Almeria, as they conceded eight goals at home.

Vargas said he headed straight back to the dressing room and forgot to follow up with Messi. However, the Barça No.10 appeared in the home dressing room and sought him out to give him his shirt -- and he also gave him shirts from Xavi, Iniesta, Alves, Pique and Puyol.

Almeria ended the season bottom of La Liga and were relegated to the second division. As for Barça, they won the league and the Champions League. However, the treble eluded them as they lost to Real Madrid in the final.
