Jorge Messi denied the report in a post on Instagram on Tuesday

Lionel Messi's father has quickly denied a report that appeared on El Chiringuito on Tuesday morning claiming he had travelled to Barcelona to discuss a possible move to Paris Saint-Germain for his son.

Through Instagram, Jorge Messi said he had been in Argentina since September and, therefore, could not have met with PSG representatives at the Qatari Consulate in Barcelona last week.

El Chiringuito said Jorge's private plane flew from Rosario to Barcelona last week for the meeting to discuss terms with the French champions.

Jorge has described the report as "false." He said: "I have been in Argentina since September #Fakenews."

Messi is out of contract in the summer and is free to talk with other clubs from January onwards.

The forward wanted to leave last summer to sign for Manchester City but Barça would not let him go and he ended up staying.

A new president will be elected at Camp Nou in January and his first job will be to talk Messi into extending his deal at the club beyond 2021.

Messi has been at Barça for 20 years -- in fact, Monday marked the 20 year anniversary of the signing of the napkin which sealed his move to the club as a teenager.
