The Barça star has always maintained he's open to a return to his homeland

Barcelona star Lionel Messi's comments about the possibility of a return to Argentina have varied as his family has grown in Catalonia.

At this stage of his career, 33 this summer, it seems his native country may have to settle, for the moment, for seeing him with the national team.

Maxi Biancucchi, Messi's cousin, says Messi returning to Argentina at the end of his career now seems "complicated" other than when he's representing la Albiceleste.

"If it wasn't for the insecurity, I have no doubts that he would play in Argentina, that's the only thing than can affect him returning," Biancucchi said.

Messi has always said that he would like to return to Newell's Old Boys, the club in Rosario where he first made his name before moving to Barça as a teenager.

"It's my dream to see him there," added Biancucchi. "It's difficult, imagine if Messi played a clasico, the kids having to go to school... the city is a madhouse."

Biancucchi also remembered the small games he played with Leo and his friends: "He played with us. We were bigger than him and they told: 'Get him out because we're going to kill him.' He was eight or nine and I got up early every Saturday to watch him play. He did incredible things. I couldn't believe it."
