Barça would like to announce the player's renewal in the next 24-48 hours ahead of Sunday's friendly.

Leo Messi's new contract will be announced in the next few days, if not hours. The 2.7 billion cash injection from the CVC investment fund into LaLiga will speed up the process, allowing Barça to finally tie their captain down to a new contract.

Barça are planning on officially announcing Messi's renewal in the next 24-48 hours. Once he has signed, the club will then be able to register him for the upcoming season alongside the club's other new arrivals: Sergio 'Kun' Agüero, Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay and Emerson Royal.

Barça are hoping to have everything sorted by this Sunday's Joan Gamper Trophy, in which the team will face off against Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. Messi could be in attendance for the customary squad presentation before the game, in which the first team captain gives a speech to the spectators ahead of the upcoming campaign.

More signings?

Barça will receive around 270 million euros off the back of the agreement between LaLiga and the CVC investment fund, 15% of which could be invested in the first team squad. The cash injection will allow them to spend more money on wages and possibly make additional signings for the 2021-22 campaign ahead of the 31 August deadline.

With the club still looking to find suitors for the likes of Umtiti, Pjanic and Braithwaite, Barça may yet be in a position to make new signings this August: something which seemed impossible a couple of months ago.
