Leo Messi is off the mark for this (pre)season after grabbing a brace against Girona. His first goal was one Barça fans have seen on numerous occasions as he turned on the edge of the box before firing into the far corner, well beyond the goalkeeper's reach.
The second came after the break. A new bit of play from Trincao saw Messi get on the ball on the edge of the box, turn onto his left and unleash a shot. This time it took a wicked deflection off the defender but the result was the same: the ball in the back of the net.
It's great news for both Leo and Barça after a very awkward summer. Messi asked to leave and refused to start preseason training. In the end, the best solution for everyone was the Argentine getting back to what he does best: scoring goals. Girona were the first victim of this season but they most certainly won't be the last.
