The salaries of Barcelona’s players are in constant movement. The club have to renew contracts every season and improve the wages of the members of Luis Enrique’s squad. They need to make sure the salaries being paid correspond with the hierarchy in the dressing room.
So who’s the player that earns the most at Camp Nou? The answer is obvious: Lionel Messi. The reason is not just because he’s the team’s best player, but the best player on the planet. Below the Argentine, things are tighter. However, once all the new deals have been sorted, the other members of the trident will prevail. If they’re the team’s vertebrae, it’s logical that they are paid the most. Therefore, Neymar, after renewing, earns 16 million euros, a number which Luis Suarez will match once he renews.
The second bracket of players is formed by the theoretical first choice midfield: Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets. Iniesta is on eight million euros, the same as Busquets. Just below them, Rakitic is earning around 6.5 million euros, although that number will increase once he agrees a new deal next year.
In the third tier are the defenders. Gerard Pique, of course, is the top paid defender. The Canterano is paid 5.8 million euros, which is less than Dani Alves was on, but more than Sergi Roberto. Below Pique are Javier Mascherano, Jordi Alba and then Arda Turan.
