Messi: "My son Mateo got angry when I said he didn't support Barça"

El argentino desvela en SPORT la curiosa reacción de su hijo mediano / | sport

In SPORT's exclusive interview with Messi, he revealed that Mateo didn't celebrate one of Betis' goals at the Camp Nou

Family is one of the biggest pillars in Lionel Messi's life. When he's unable to step out on the pitch, he's often joined by Thiago, Mateo and Ciro in the stands as he watches his Barça teammates in action.

"I enjoy it a lot more with them and I have more time to do that in the stands. It’s beautiful but I prefer to be out on the pitch and being involved as I’ve spent so long on the sidelines," Messi told SPORT in an exclusive interview.

Another curious detail about Messi's family is that of Mateo. It was the Barça captain himself who revealed that Mateo "cheered Real Madrid's goals" to upset his brother.

But that story isn't one Mateo himself likes. "He got angry with me when I said that he supported another team which wasn't Barcelona."

THE CURIOUS DEBATE SURROUNDING Barça-Betis

More recently than that was a video which went viral on social media with the caption being that Mateo was celebrating Betis' goals against Barça. "It wasn’t true. It was one of our attacks that hit the side netting and he thought it had gone in."

Messi reveals that both Mateo and Thiago are super competitive and neither one likes to come second. "When they lose, they suffer too."
