Messi backed Pique's comments but said he would not have aired them in public

Lionel Messi said he wouldn't have said what Gerard Pique said after Barcelona's win over Getafe but backed the defender's comments.

Pique suggested the board were behind an article in the local media which suggested the players had too much power at the Catalan club.

"Geri doesn't tell anyone ever (what he's going to say), especially not me," Messi said in an interview with RAC1. "So yes, it surprised me what he said."

When pushed on the subject, Messi added: "Pique's been at the club for years and he knows how things go here, he knows that we all learn of everything.

"I honestly wouldn't have said it like that because it makes it a bigger issue than it is, but it's a lie that we have power in the dressing room."
