In an interview with TyC Sports, Messi was honest about the demands on his body and mind in football

Leo Messi is getting ready to take on the Copa América with Argentina and he insists he's in better condition than previous seasons.

"I'm physically fine. I finished the season mentally tired and frustrated for how the last 15 days have gone: being knocked out of the Champions League. Physically though I'm fine. I think over the last few years this is the least I've played."

Messi also said that in the modern game it's becoming more common for sides to sit back and frustrate rather than express their own style. "It's difficult to win a match nowdays. All the matches are tight, close affairs. Teams put everyone behind the ball and play on the counter. Very few teams come out and play."

Messi insists being captain hasn't changed him.  "Masche was a very respected captain for what he did on the pitch. I like it, but I manage it in a more relaxed way."

The Copa America presents Leo with the chance to finally claim some silverware for his country.
