Through his Foundation, the Barcelona star has had 50 ventilators sent to his homeland

Leo Messi is immersed in fighting for the Champions League with Barcelona, although he's closely following the development of the coronavirus pandemic in his native Argentina.

The country is currently in a critical moment as infections rise and there's a need for supplies in hospitals.

For that reason, the Barça star, through the Leo Messi Foundation, has paid for 50 ventilators for hospitals in Argentina.

The virus is currently at its worst in South America. In Argentina, the system is currently at the risk of collapse, as happened in Spain at the end of March.

Crisis

Now, as was the case in Spain, the main cause of the crisis in hospitals in Argentina is the lack of ventilators to support the most serious cases.

Last Friday, the first 32 of 50 ventilators arrived in Rosario after the donation from the Leo Messi Foundation. In May, the Foundation had previously donated artificial ventilators.

Messi has also made personal donations worth more than one million euros to the fight against coronavirus in Catalonia and Argentina.
