Lionel Messi now has his sixth European Golden Shoe: he received it on Wednesday at the Antiga Fàbrica Damm in Barcelona after scoring 36 goals in La Liga last season.

Messi has now won the Golden Shoe six teams, more than anyone else. It was created in 1967-68 and Messi won it for the first time in 2009-10.

36 GOALS

Messi's 36 league goals also earned him the Pichichi for the sixth time, drawing him level with Telmo Zarra, who won it on six occasions, too, between 1944 and 1953.

Those goals helped Messi pip Kylian Mbappe to the Golden Shoe by three goals. The Paris Saint-Germain striker scored 33 Ligue 1 goals last season.

Messi, who sat next to his wife Antonela Rocuzzo at the event, has now won the prize in each of the last three seasons.
