Messi 57-56 Ronaldo: Barcelona star takes over as free-kick king
Messi scored his 57th free-kick in Argentina's 1-1 draw with Chile on Monday
Lionel Messi has scored more goals from free-kicks than anyone else still playing the game after scoring direct from a set play in Argentina's 1-1 draw with Chile in the Copa America.
The free-kick goal allowed him to surpass Messi as the king of free-kicks in the modern game, moving onto 57, with the Portugal star on 56.
Of Messi's 57, 50 have been for Barça and the others have been with his country. Ronald has scored 32 with Real Madrid, 13 with Manchester United, one with Juventus and 10 for Portugal.
Messi's comeback has been spectacular. At the start of the 16-17 season, Ronaldo led Messi 47-28. In the last five seasons, the score is 29-9 in Messi's favour.
