They donated snacks, soft drinks and alcohol to a local food bank in Rosario

Guests were also asked to make a donation to charity, rather than buy presents

Leo Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo donated the leftovers from their wedding to a local food bank after the tied the knot in their native Rosario (Argentina) on June 30.

According to reports in Argentina, Rosario Food Bank and the Conin Foundation received the snacks and drinks which were left over and the alcohol, which they then sold to local bars.

Rosario Food Bank president Nadia Nazar confirmed the reports, telling La Capital: "For us any type of donation is very well received and to be honest, we are very happy that they took us into consideration

"One of the wedding organisers got in contact with our executive director, Pablo Algrain, to offer us snacks, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks.

"We told them that we had to exchange the alcoholic beverages for money as we cannot give them to institutions. We have friends who own bars and they buy them from us and that allows us to transform it into money as a donation to the food bank."

Messi and Antonela also requested that the 260 guests invited to their wedding didn't bring presents, but instead made a donation to the Leo Messi Foundation.
