The Italian side want the Dutch forward but cannot afford a big transfer fee

Barcelona are hoping to lighten the salary load ahead of the season, and if possible sell some players. One of the priorities is to sell Memphis Depay, a player who has various clubs interested in him - Barcelona have told him they do not want to let him go for free.

Memphis would move to a top-level club if he is paid a high salary, and there are options on the table. Barcelona have an offer from Juventus, and the Dutch forward has shown interest in reaching an agreement, but the deal is complicated. It could happen as a transfer, or a loan with an obligatory buy clause if he signs a one-year extension at Barcelona.

Memphis’s lawyers were at Barcelona last week and they didn’t seem particularly keen on renewing, although they are exploring the option.

The player wants to study all the options on the table, but Juventus‘s offer attracts him and the move is advancing because of that. However Barcelona will have to lower their asking price to help him get a salary which is sufficiently attractive him to give the nod to a move. The Italian side prefer the idea of a loan, because they don’t have much FFP margin.

Barcelona are trying to make it work, while the player also has some other options. In the Premier League Chelsea and Tottenham are interested, although he’s not the first choice of the Blues and in Tottenham‘s case the player doesn’t like the project too much. Everton wanted to push for Memphis Depay but he would prefer a move to a Champions League club to continue his career.

On Friday new signing Robert Lewandowski was presented with the number nine shirt, which belongs to Memphis Depay, and president Joan Laporta said that it was a club decision to move the number to the Polish striker.
