Memphis says no to Spurs and is waiting for better offers to leave Barça

The Dutch forward was impressive in the win over Miami

Memphis was one of the big protagonists in the first game of the club’s US tour. The Dutchman scored a fine goal, which could get clubs interested in buying him in the weeks to come.

His objective was to continue at Camp Nou but he knows he’ll find it tough to play this season. He’s willing to listen to offers, but he has said no to Tottenham and is looking at other options. There could be new news next week.

The English side asked about Memphis and Barcelona quoted them a little over 20 million euros. They did not make a formal offer but did speak with the player, with Barcelona’s permission. Memphis was not warm to the offer though and has ruled out Tottenham for now, although if a better concrete offer arrives he might rethink.

Memphis wants to be an important player in a team that can win titles and thinks that if Barcelona lower their asking price for him, that might happen.

He arrived for free last summer and lowered his salary a lot to come, so is hopeful the club will not keep demanding an excessive price for a player whose deal expires in a year. The club are willing to lower the price.

There may be other options in the Premier League cooking but for now, nothing firm. There are intermediaries working on the deal while the Dutchman is in the US with Barcelona. On their return it may be easier to manage.
