Memphis gives green light to Atletico move as negotiations advance

The Dutch forward could make the move to the Metropolitano this month

Barcelona forward Memphis Depay's potential move to Atlético is advancing all the time. Atletico and Barça already know that the Dutchman is predisposed to open negotiations to leave for Madrid while waiting to reach an economic agreement on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Barça and Atlético are already negotiating to reach an agreement that should go through as a low-fee transfer or a paid loan, as was the case with Joao Félix, who has joined Chelsea.

Atlético launched their interest in Memphis knowing a deal was possible. Previously, their sporting committee had spoken with the player's entourage to find out his willingness to play for the club from January and the Dutchman did not close the door.

Once the talks with Barça advanced, Memphis has confirmed to all parties that he welcomes this option. Despite everything, Memphis has another proposal on the table, which could be Newcastle United, and he could pick the highest bidder, although the Atlético project is more attractive.

The forward's position was essential to move the operation on, since the clubs were very clear that they had to have the OK from the Dutchman first. Once this procedure has been completed, both Barça and Atletico have given themselves a few days to try to reach a full agreement.

And that agreement goes through a transfer. Barça know that Atlético has signed a loan contract for Joao Félix to Chelsea for €12 million, so there is room to reach an agreement. The Blaugrana want sufficient financial compensation and to save on Memphis' salary until the end of the season.
