PSG offered him a wage rise to ward off Barça's interest

The player is desperate to secure a move to Barcelona though

Marco Verratti took a break from his holiday to travel to Paris to meet with Paris Saint-Germain's owners, who reportedly offered him a juicy new wage rise which would have taken his salary up to 12 million euros per season, according to Mediaset.

The Italian player, Barça's top target this smmer, listened to PSG's offer, but reiterated his desire to leave the French club and to sign for the Catalan side.

Verratti met with the president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the sporting director Antero Henrique and they both insisted that even if he doesn't accept the new terms he has a contract until 2021 and will not be allowed to leave.

Meanwhile, Barça are still hopeful. They are grateful for Verratti's moves to agitate for a transfer and force a move this summer.

July 4 is when he's due back in Paris for pre-season, but Verratti may decide not turn up if there is still no resolution by then in a bid to crank up the pressure.
