The Dutch defender is set to leave Ajax and join a big European club this summer

Matthijs de Ligt, Ajax’s centre-back and captain, has dropped new hints about his future. Taking advantage of the presentation of the new edition of the magazine Life After Football, in which the Dutch defender and his partner Annekee Molenaar appear on the cover, he gave an interview in which they asked him what happens next.

De Ligt said that “I am very excited for what could be coming in the near future but I’m calm too. I see it as a challenge, that’s the most important thing.

“There are various options, what I’m doing is looking for the best option. It seems logical that one option might be better than another.”

Barcelona and various Premier League sides as well as PSG are trying to sign him.

In terms of living abroad, De Ligt said: “It could be difficult but I’m an normal Dutch guy. I’m not much different than the rest. Maybe in a foreign country everything will be more intense.”
