Mateu Alemany once again chips in the name Héctor Bellerín

| sport

The director of football made a push for him last summer.

Héctor Bellerín's portfolio is still open, even if it is as Plan B to the two main options, Juan Foyth (Villarreal CF) and Thomas Meunier (Dortmund). Mateu Alemany, director of football, has led the negotiations to sign the Arsenal player.

The first step for Barça for the arrival of a right-back is the exit of Sergiño Dest. Then if Foyth or Meunier cannot come in, Bellerín will be next on the list. But first, the full-back will also need to terminate his contract with Arsenal and be released. Should he do this, the Spanish giants could make a move for him.

Barça's coaches believe that Bellerínan, an important figure at Arsenal for years, is still young at 27 years old and has a career amongst the elite, and knows the Barça style because he began his training at La Masia.

It is not the first time that Bellerín's name has been associated with Barça, courtesy of Mateu Alemany. Last summer Alemany managed to get hold of the academy player so that if he left Arsenal, his first choice was Barça. However, the then Barça coach, Ronald Koeman, still had faith in Dest.

Koeman knew Dest well from his days at Ajax, where he made an immediate impact in the Eredivisie in his first season. Dest stood out as a creative full-back, an attacking player capable of making a difference in one-on-ones and even scoring goals.

Under Koeman, he soon had a leading role, but Xavi, however, has never been convinced by the American. So much so that he accepted the arrival of Alves to replace him in the middle of the season. Despite his talent, Dest has struggled with some difficulties in defending. Xavi already sent him a clear message with the first call-up of the season by leaving him out for the likes of Sergi Roberto or Araujo, and is also looking to reinforce the position in the market.
