The Spaniard did not want to risk his move to FC Barcelona so asked not to play

Chelsea kicked off their Premier League season on Saturday, without Marcos Alonso. The Madrid born defender was not in the squad, having asked Thomas Tuchel not to feature. A step closer to his Barcelona switch.

The Catalans want him to give competition to Jordi Alba on that side. Chelsea have offered to include him in a deal for Frenkie de Jong too, along with 70m euros.

Having signed Marc Cucurella, Chelsea no longer need the Spanish defender.
