The defender has spoken to SPORT about a range of subjects

Marcos Alonso spoke to SPORT after the win over Almeria on Saturday, which was Gerard Pique's Camp Nou farewell. The defender spoke about his origins and his feelings. Despite coming through at Real Madrid, he revealed that he has always been a Barça fan, "my dad's team," and that this summer he fulfilled a dream by signing for the Catalan club.

The full interview will be in Monday's edition of SPORT, both in print and online.

Marcos reveals his feelings and emotions and does not hide that "during my whole career, I always wanted to sign for Barça, it was my team when I was a boy."

However, his family lived in Madrid and he joined Los Blancos' academy, although he says he "did the trial reluctantly, my parents were laughing, but it was the best for my development."

Alonso admits he "took a risk" in the summer signing for Barça for just one season, but that he was keen to "leave the comfort zone" he had at Chelsea.

He wanted to experience the Spanish league and return to his homeland. He won everything in England, but it was never Spain. "In 10 years, I never tried the fish and chips there," he confessed with a good sense of humour.

Alonso also spoke about his competition with Jordi Alba and Alejandro Balde, as well as his desire to be part of Spain's squad at the World Cup this month.

Luis Enrique will release his squad for the tournament on Friday, Nov. 11.
