Manchester United have not given up hope of signing Barça's De Jong

The midfielder turned down a move in the summer but the Premier League side are still keen

It was one of the sagas of the summer and it seems it is not over yet. Manchester United are still interested in signing Frenkie de Jong and are ready to make an offer in January.

According to ESPN, De Jong is still the priority signing for United coach Erik ten Hag, who is convinced an agreement can be reached between all parties.

A move was ruled out in the summer given the difficulties in closing a deal and the player's doubts about the move, but United and Ten Hag will not give up.

De Jong made it clear he wanted to stay at Barça despite a tense relationship with the club. Barça were open to selling him to raise money and get his salary off the wage bill.

Both the player and his camp refused to negotiate an exit, though, and also refused to entertain the possibility of a wage reduction to stay at Camp Nou.

Despite all of that, De Jong wanted to remain part of Xavi Hernandez's ambitious Barça project. United have made it clear that they will keep the door open, though, in the hope that he changes his mind.

Barça's financial situation has changed and after registering all their new signings they don't want to sell him, but it remains to be seen if they will need to raise more money in the future.
