According to 'GloboEsporte', Pep's side have offered a deal worth up to €15m; Barça had previously offered €5m + variables

FC Barcelona are facing a tough battle in their bid to sign Brazilian starlet Yan Couto. Manchester City, led by Barça legend Pep Guardiola, have more than doubled the offer made by the Camp Nou officials according to 'GloboEsporte'.

Couto's agent, Marcelo Robalinho, hasn't commented on reports City had offered €15m for the youngster: €9m upfront with €6m in variables.

Barça's opening bid for the right-back was €5m plus variables. They thought by moving quickly a deal could be struck before anyone else joined the transfer battle. Unfortunately, City have now more than doubled the club's initial offer.

Couto, who currently plays for Coritiba, is out of contract next December and the Brazilian side don't want to lose him for nothing should he choose not to sign a new deal.

English newspaper 'The Guardian' recently included Couto in their list of the 60 best young players.
