The Premier League side have signed Casemiro but still want the Dutchman

Decisive days are coming up for Frenkie de Jong's future. Manchester United appear to be the only escape route for the Dutch midfielder if Barcelona force his exit and the English side are convinced that there is a chance to do a deal.

Dutch newspaper Telegraaf assure that United, coached by former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, are still hopeful of signing De Jong, who they have been chasing all summer. They want one final meeting to reach an agreement with Barça and the player.

De Jong started against Real Sociedad on Sunday but that does not mean his future is sorted. Barça still maintain that he cannot remain on his current salary, which is above the new limit at the club.

Barça have already told the player's camp he must reduce his wages or find a new club. Chelsea, despite their interest, have not yet made a move and coach Thomas Tuchel has suggested more midfielders are not needed.

United have signed Casemiro from Real Madrid but want to continue strengthening in midfield and will not give up hope of bringing in De Jong just yet.

So far, despite everything, De Jong's camp have remained stern in their desire to stay at Camp Nou without accepting a pay cut.
