Man United interested in bringing in Frenkie de Jong

The new coach, Ten Hag, likes the Barcelona midfielder from their Ajax days

Barcelona’s midfield for next season seems set up, with Franck Kessie arriving. Xavi has a lot of options in midfield and he wants to keep them, although Frenkie de Jong’s future is not known.

Manchester United are evolving their squad and they are interested in the Dutchman. Their new coach Erik ten Hag believes in De Jong from their Ajax days and he will have 250 million euros to boost the squad with. Barcelona don’t want to sell, however, and for now everything indicates they won’t.

De Jong is a starter in Xavi’s team despite his inconsistent displays. With Koeman he seemed more comfortable on the pitch, under Xavi he is still learning his midfield role.

Ten Hag’s arrival could change things if De Jong wants to go. Barcelona signed him for 75m, with 11m in add ons. A big sale before June 30 wouldn’t be bad for Barcelona, to help balance the books. However De Jong is happy in Catalonia.

Ten Hag has been critical of how Barcelona have managed the midfielder.

At United he could replace Matic or Pogba with De Jong for a big upgrade.

Barcelona, meanwhile, have been linked with Valencia’s Carlos Soler, who is out of contract in 2023 and might come cheaply.
