Man United close to signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona
The Dutch midfielder did not want to leave but the price is good and Ten Hag wants him
Frenkie de Jong could become the third player to leave Barcelona this summer after Philippe Coutinho and Ferran Jutgla. According to the Daily Star, Man United are optimistic they will sign the Dutch midfielder.
There is no deal yet with Barcelona but the clubs are negotiating. United are confident they can get De Jong for around 80 million euros. That is close to what Barcelona paid for him and given the club’s economic situation, it’s a useful fee. De Jong did not want to move from Camp Nou but the club’s economic situation, will to move him along and Erik ten Hag wanting him at United have provoked a change of mind.
Barcelona can use the money to sign Ruben Neves, Raphinha or Bernardo Silva. Negotiations have begun with Man United.
