Erling Haaland has made a phenomenal start to life with Manchester City. The expectations were high but he is even surpassing them. He has scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 11 games. It's hard to believe there was even some criticism after he failed to score in the Community Shield at the start of the campaign. How he has responded.
Haaland's latest appearance brought a hat-trick in Sunday's 3-0 win over Manchester United in the derby. Asked after that win if he had the same sensations with the Norway striker that he had when he was in charge of Lionel Messi at Barcelona, Pep Guardiola explained the difference.
"Maybe the difference is that Erling needs all his teammates, while Messi could do it on his own," the City coach said.
Far from being a slight on the incredible Haaland, what Pep was doing was praising a player he has always described as the best he has ever seen or coached.
