Man City deny offering Lionel Messi triple his salary to join
Club sources say that comments attributed to Khaldoon are not true
Manchester City have denied comments attributed to their president Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, which say he offered Lionel Messi triple his salary to join the club.
"We categorically deny the truth of the quote attributed to our president which came out in Mundo Deportivo," said Man City.
The story came from a video in which Khaldoon appeared at a conference. Asked if there was a player he would have liked to have signed but didn't, "Yes, Messi," he replied.
Afterwards some other 'quotes' were published, which claimed he said: "We asked Guardiola to talk to him, we offered him triple the salary that he had at Barca but he never accepted."
