The first time FC Barcelona and Lyon met was in the group stages of the 2001/02 season. Barça won 2-0 at the Camp Nou and 3-2 in France.
The second clash also came in the group stages but of the 2007/08 season. Barcelona won 3-0 at the Camp Nou but could only draw 2-2 in Lyon.
They have only met once in the knockout rounds and it came in the Last 16 of the following season, 2008/09. Barça drew 1-1 in Lyon but then thumped the French team 5-2 at the Camp Nou. That Barcelona side, managed by Pep Guardiola, would later go on to win the competition.
