Luis Suarez's contract renewal: the best news for Messi

Despite the delay there's nothing to be worried about & Suarez should sign new terms soon

FC Barcelona and Luis Suarez are scrupulously fulfilling the deadlines that both parties have set to crystallise the contract renewal which they’ve working since the end of last season.

At first sight, the delay to confirming the deal could be understood as unjustified, but that is nothing further from the reality. What Barça and the Uruguayan’s representatives are doing is adding into the contract all the agreed terms and then passing them through the mandatory legal and fiscal filter. It’s a lengthy process.

Since the dramatic consequences of the signing of Neymar in 2013, Barça have internally activated a series of measures, mechanisms and filters at all levels to avoid getting their fingers caught in tax, legal and criminal matters.

To that end, they hired the services of Sabine Paquer, a compliance officer who ensures that all contracts and documents within the club meet all requirements.

At the moment, Luis Suarez’s new deal is in that phase. All the details, clauses and fiscal repercussions are being looked over.

Suarez will renew when all is ready, not before, not after, without rushing. Once it’s all been approved, the 29-year-old will commit his future to the Blaugrana until 2021, which signifies a five-year deal.

It’s great news for Barcelona and also for Lionel Messi. The Argentine has a great relationship with Suarez on and off the team. And that relationship also tipped the balance for Neymar, who ignored bigger offers to remain part of the MSN trident at Camp Nou.

With Neymar and Suarez renewed, it’s ‘easier’ for Barça to tie down Messi, because what makes the difference in this team is, without doubt, the trident.
