Lucas Hernandez, Barcelona's impossible (?) dream

The French defender is liked a lot at Camp Nou but will be a tricky operation to pull off

Barcelona want to strengthen the defence for next season. They are searching for players on the market who will fit Xavi’s system and one of those is Bayern Munich’s Lucas Hernandez.

His name has been mentioned in Barcelona’s offices for a while. However the club know that it’s a very tricky operation as his cost will be high.

He has a contract until 2024 and arrived from Atletico Madrid for 80 million euros. Lucas has not played as much as he would have liked because of various injuries he has suffered. This season he has played 23 times in the Bundesliga and eight times in the Champions League, which isn’t bad, although he wouldn’t mind returning to Spain.

At Barcelona they like his profile, comfortable at left back or centre-back, which would give Xavi cover in two roles. Jordi Alba has not had competition at left back while left footed defenders Umtiti and Clement Lenglet could leave this summer.

Barcelona will be speaking to Bayern over Robert Lewandowski and potentially Frenkie de Jong. Lucas might be another name that crops up.
